About
A small house on a hill.
Elmwood is a six-room hotel in the village of Valmora, run by a team of five.
The house
Elmwood was built in 1931 as a doctor's home, with thick stone walls and a chestnut tree that still stands by the gate. It was a boarding house for a while, then stood empty for years.
The present owners bought it in 2016. They kept the walls, the tile floors and the shutters, and added bathrooms and heating. It opened as a hotel in spring 2018.
How we run it
With six rooms we know every guest by name. Breakfast is cooked to order, and the menu on the table says where the eggs, honey and cheese came from.
We answer booking requests ourselves, usually the same day. If we are full, we say so and suggest other dates or another house in the village.
What it is not
There is no pool, no spa and no lift. The house has stairs, and the upper rooms are up one or two flights. If that is a problem, ask for the ground floor when you send your request.

The team
Five people, six rooms.
Marta
Owner and host
Marta grew up two villages away and runs the front desk most mornings. She leads the Sunday walk.
Teo
Breakfast and kitchen
Teo cooks breakfast and bakes the plain cake on the terrace bar. He buys eggs and honey from neighbours.
Ines
Housekeeping lead
Ines has looked after the rooms since the day the hotel opened. She knows which shutter sticks.
Jonas
Reception and bikes
Jonas covers evenings and keeps the bikes running. Ask him for the walk that suits your legs.
Lucia
Terrace bar
Lucia pours from April to October and chooses the wine list from three small growers nearby.
